Jackson Novem is a singer/songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist from Charlotte, North Carolina who began writing poetry at the age of nine. This subsequently led to his co-opting of the Latin word for the number in his stage name. Jackson recalls his childhood as being "rocky," and that he used music “to escape,” so when Jackson received a secondhand iPad for his 14th birthday, he instantly took to producing music on it. Jackson also commonly cites Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson, and James Taylor as musical influences in his formative years.
Jackson released his debut album, Rollercoaster, on August 14th, 2017, just days before his 20th birthday. He described the album as one that was the result of a long writing process that began after the end of a relationship. “It’s a record about growing up through the lens of a relationship that didn’t pan out, and I learned a lot from that experience.” On October 26th, 2018, Jackson released his first single from his upcoming EP with “Don’t Hate Me,” which was subsequently followed by the moody and introspective “You Should Be Here” which was written about his puppy, Percy, who passed away at 5 months old after being hit by a speeding driver in front of his home.
Jackson also plays both guitar and piano in addition to his talents in songwriting and producing, is a student at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte completing his English degree, and is currently balancing his education with his passion for music.
